Sprint Rolls Out LG G Flex 2 Android 5.1.1 Update

Sprint has officially released the LG G Flex 2 Android Lollipop 5.1.1 over-the-air (OTA) update June 8, 2015. As always, firmware updates may be delivered in batches and might take a couple of days to reach one's unit.

Sprint launched the upgrade version LS996ZV6, and this particular release offers software improvements and bug fixes to one's existing Android Lollipop that would create a smoother user experience for owners of LG G Flex 2.

It would be a safer installation on a stable Wi-Fi connection and a sufficient battery charged phone. To check manually for the update, simply go to the Settings and click System Updates then Update LG Software and choose the Check for Update button and let the process finished.

Sprint noted that the major enhancement for this release would be the Factory Reset Protection. This feature increases the level of security for LG G Flex 2 owners in case of stolen or lost units. Any non-owner who tries to reset the factory settings of the LG G Flex 2 would be prompted to enter the owner's Google password making the smartphone more secure and not accessible to others.

Android Lollipop 5.1.1 is also expected to fix the memory leak bug affecting Android Lollipop 5.0 users. The memory leak glitch crashes apps with persistent notifications randomly such as playing music. Owners have reportedly needed to reboot their device for a temporary solution but this bug should be fixed on this update roll-out. Other expected enhancements for Android Lollipop 5.1.1 include NuPlayer becoming the default Google streaming content player replacing AwesomePlayer, a new status bar icon signifying no SIM inserted would be introduced, and some new animations in Clock app. Android Lollipop 5.1.1 also tweaked the quick settings for Android Lollipop 5.0. It should now be easier to transfer between Wi-Fi access points and Bluetooth devices due to the new dropdown arrows next to these settings. The screen pinning feature of Android Lollipop 5.0 has been clarified to allow easy locking children or guests from opening a particular app of the owner.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB internal storage, LG G Flex 2 would definitely benefit from the software upgrade. Android 5.1.1 would also maximize the use of its 13 megapixel camera and its 3,000 mAh battery even with a 5.5-inch curved display that sports up to 1080p (403ppi) resolution.
