AT&T has quietly started selling the Escape 2, LG's successor to the mid-range Escape smartphone that was launched back in 2012.
The Escape 2 has been on sale for the past few days now, with a price of $179.99 with no contract.
The smartphone features a 4.7-inch curved display, which is similar to the G Flex and Flex 2 smartphones that were also released by LG. The Escape 2's IPS screen has a 1,280x720 pixel resolution.
Within the Escape 2 is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, clocking in at 1.2GHz. The smartphone also packs 1GB of RAM with internal storage of 8GB, and is powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of the box.
The smartphone also features an 8MP rear-facing camera and a 1MP front-facing camera.
The Escape 2 features a couple of things which favors users that love taking quick pictures on their smartphone. One of these features allows users to tap on the subject on the device's display to capture the image, allowing the smartphone's camera software to make adjustments to feature the selected subject. Another feature is for fans of taking selfies, with users able to initiate a three-second countdown for taking a selfie by raising their hand and then making a fist facing the Escape 2's front camera.
In addition to the smartphone being available for purchase at a price of $179.99, AT&T also has the Escape 2 up for sale for only 99 cents if the customer decides to take it up with a two-year service contract with the carrier. AT&T also offers the Next payment plan that will allow customers to receive the Escape 2 for no down payment but with a monthly payment of $9 for 20 months under AT&T Next 12, a monthly payment of $7.50 for 24 months under AT&T Next 18 or a monthly payment of $6 for 30 months under AT&T Next 24.
LG has been busy recently with its latest flagship smartphone, the G4, which could be why the release of the Escape 2 under AT&T has largely gone unnoticed until now. While there is still no exact release date for the G4 in the United States, Verizon and Sprint have already received approval from the FCC on selling the smartphone, marking a nearer release date for the highly-anticipated device.
