Player Completes 'Fallout: New Vegas' In 24 Minutes, Sets New World Record

It's no secret that each entry in the Fallout franchise is absolutely massive. They're some of the biggest games ever created: Fallout titles are built from the ground up to be playable after hundreds of hours, and that's largely thanks to player choice. Players can be or do just about anything they want - if you want to go for story quests, go ahead; if you want to just wander the wastelands and search for treasure, that's up to you. It's the reason that fans are still playing Fallout: New Vegas nearly five years after it was released.

When it comes to such a massive game, few would ever think to try and speedrun through it. Fallout: New Vegas is just as massive as any other entry in the franchise, so how is beating the game in less than a dozen hours even possible? Well, not only are people still speedrunning the game today, but someone just set a new world record - with a time of less than 30 minutes.

It might sound crazy, but it's true: speedrunner Ryderc33 just completed Fallout: New Vegas in roughly 25 minutes.

You may be thinking to yourself, 'how does someone beat a game that big in less than half an hour without cheating?' Basically, it's all about memorization, ignoring the story and using a surprisingly handy glitch.

As you can see in the video above, Ryderc33 basically ignores most of the game's narrative, choosing the first option for almost every dialogue option he comes across. Normally, such an approach would probably result in restarting the game, but Ryder really doesn't have to worry about any of that - after all, he blazes through the rest of the game so quickly that any choices he makes can't come back to haunt him.

On top of that, Ryder also implements a glitch that increases his speed by a whopping 165%. How does he do this? Easy - he breaks his leg!

"When you cripple your leg, you get slower, and then when you heal it, you're supposed to get your speed back. By quickloading just before getting crippled, you can confuse the game into giving you the speed back without actually ever losing it ( because we don't actually really get crippled). So you get a huge speedboost, and walk at 165% of your walking speed."

It takes some insane dedication to find the perfect speedrun, especially for a game like Fallout: New Vegas. Of course, with a time like that, Ryder probably won't have to worry about anyone stealing his record for a long time.
