More than 65 million years ago, scientists believe a massive asteroid slammed into the Earth, the aftermath of which made the dinosaurs go extinct.
What if that asteroid missed? That's the question Pixar's upcoming film, The Good Dinosaur, asks in a new trailer. It starts grim and serious, with the asteroid barreling toward the Earth, but soon the meteor zips by and the dinosaurs are none the wiser.
We then get a few brief clips of dinosaurs stampeding with what look to be buffalo, one dinosaur in raging river rapids and what appears to be a human kid riding atop a dinosaur's back. That makes sense, as we know this movie will be about dinosaurs and humans co-existing, much to the excitement of creationists everywhere.
Whether or not the humans and dinosaurs will get along 100 percent peacefully is still up in the air, as it looks like dinosaurs will still be the dominant species on the planet.
Check out the trailer below for a glimpse at what to expect.
The Good Dinosaur will be out in December following a number of delays and setbacks. The film underwent a number of story changes and also changed directors. Original director Bob Peterson stepped away from the project to be replaced by Peter Sohn. According to an article in the LA Times (via /Film), Sohn changed aspects of the story significantly, specifically the idea of the dinosaur lifestyle being modeled off Amish farmers.
As a result of the delay, a number of Pixar employees were laid off. It will be the second Pixar film released this year after this summer's Inside Out hits theaters June 19.
