So now we're making comic books out of Internet memes, are we?
Dynamite Entertainment just announced the forthcoming publication of a new comic book entitled...
(Wait for it...)
The Misadventures of Grumpy Cat. Yes, this is real. And it gets better. Dynamite is also planning a website in which a weekly comic strip starring Grumpy Cat will be published. The cover of the comic's first issue has been released today, and here's what it looks like.
Admittedly, it's kind of cute. As you can see, the comic book will also star Grumpy's brother, Pokey, who's decidedly more positive than his sister. (Grumpy's a girl, in case you didn't know.) But here's the thing. As funny as Grumpy Cat is – and don't even act like you've never laughed at a picture of her – isn't she kind of a one-note? Won't every comic book issue and strip have the same punchline over and over?
The Misadventures of Grumpy Cat is currently planned as a three-issue miniseries debuting in the fall. Dynamite has already announced plans to compile the issues into a hardcover graphic novel just in time for Christmas.
If Grumpy Cat starts a new trend of memes-turned-comic books, we're hoping for a team-up starring Ryan Gosling, Chuck Norris, Boromir and the Most Interesting Man In the World.
