Professional wrestling is known for many things: shirtless men, surprisingly intricate storylines, terrible acting..oh, and wrestling, too. WWE represents the vast majority of sports entertainment today, and because of it, wrestling is now its own subculture.
Over the years, this subculture has attracted a range of different guest stars from various forms of entertainment. There have been some huge celebrities on WWE programming in the past, including Donald Trump, Hugh Jackman, Mike Tyson and even the Muppets. It's definitely one of the trademarks of the company, and it won't be stopping anytime soon.
Earlier today, WWE announced its newest guest host for Monday Night RAW, and it's easily the strangest yet. Next Monday, Internet phenom Grumpy Cat will step into the squared-circle:
Yes, it's true: Grumpy Cat will be hosting Monday Night RAW as part of Lifetime's marketing campaign for the meme's upcoming Christmas movie, Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever.
The Grumpy Cat film, starring Aubrey Plaza as the titular cat, airs on Lifetime on Nov. 29. Why a Christmas movie is airing just a few days after Thanksgiving and not closer to Christmas is anyone's guess, but Lifetime did make up for it by releasing the first clip from the movie:
In all honesty, the movie could be good: Plaza's demeanor makes her the best possible choice for voicing Grumpy Cat. Though, for Monday Night RAW next week, it would be pretty amazing if the cat could be voiced by Vince McMahon himself...call it wishful thinking.
Monday Night RAW airs Monday nights at 8pm on USA.
