Samsung has just announced that it will be holding a media event later this month. The event was announced with a teaser graphic along with a catchy slogan that says "Kapture the Moment."
"Kapture the moment. April 29. Mark your calendars!" says Samsung on the company's Samsung Mobile Twitter page. The media event will be held in Singapore this coming April 29 at 11 a.m. (April 28, 11 p.m. EST).
The Samsung Media Day slogan may be a clear hint to the unveiling of a new Samsung smartphone aimed at shutterbugs and photography aficionados. The company has been rumored to be working on a device called the Galaxy S5 Zoom. Other names floating around the rumor mill include the Galaxy K or the Galaxy K Zoom. If Samsung is getting ready to unveil the rumored phone, the likelihood is high that the new smartphone will come with powerful camera upgrades.
After Samsung's new flagship model the Galaxy S5 was unveiled, various rumors and speculation came out regarding possible variants of the device. This has become somewhat of a Samsung tradition since the S4. Tech pundits have weighed in on the matter, hinting that the same tradition may be applied to the new S5. Following the trend started by the S4, Samsung may also release a sports-oriented Galaxy S5 Active and quite possibly a pocket-friendly Galaxy S5 Mini.
Rumors aside, Samsung's latest announcement is a rather convincing hint that the Galaxy S5 Zoom may finally be unveiled. There isn't much information available on the probable device, but if it really exists, then it will probably have better specs compared with the Galaxy S4 Zoom. Current predictions say that the new Zoom will be smaller and thinner. Moreover, an alleged leaked photo indicates that the S5 Zoom may have a 4.4-44 mm 1:3.3-6.7 24 mm 20 megapixel snapper as a rear camera. The front camera may also be beefed up. If these rumors are true, then the S5 Zoom will be a much more powerful shooter compared with its predecessor the S4 Zoom.
Based on what Samsung did with the Galaxy S4 Zoom, the new device's name might be the Galaxy S5 Zoom. However, Samsung's teaser image also seems to lend credence to the rumor of a Galaxy device with a "K" in its name. This could mean that the new device will be named the Galaxy K or the Galaxy K Zoom.
