Abandon Android: Samsung planned on backstabbing Google for years, internal documents reveal

New revelations in the battle for smartphone supremacy are being released by a number of media organizations, with reports that Samsung has been planning to end its use of Android technology from Google for its smartphones as it looks to create and implement its own operating system for its devices. A number of bloggers and observers have called the leak documents proof that Samsung is looking to leave Google behind in a move that could send shockwaves through the industry.

Samsung and Google have long been partners on smartphone operating systems, called Android, as they battle against industry leader Apple for a greater share of the market.

According to reports, however, Samsung is prepared to leave Google behind and go it alone in its fight against Apple.

Although Samsung views Apple as its biggest competitor -- as evidenced by court proceedings over patents and potential infringement in San Jose -- it also views HTC and its dealings with Google as the two other impediments for market supremacy.

The company, in documents leaked at the trial, believes that it needs to move away from the Android platform designed by Google if it is to compete on an even larger scale. Surprisingly, this comes as Samsung released its newest Galaxy smartphone, which has received a number of positive reviews as it battles for the American market dominated by the iPhone.

Leaving Google behind, however, could be a more difficult endeavor, as the Mountain View-based Internet company has been the leading developer of the Android technology and has numerous agreements with Samsung over using the operating system. But Samsung believes that it can develop its own, unique, operating system that will be better, faster, and more user friendly.

Many are questioning Samsung's intentions over leaving Android behind in the wake of the trial with Apple over infringement and patent laws. They argue that while battling Apple and HTC are natural in the market, pushing Google under the bus over technology that has largely helped Samsung secure a solid market share could be detrimental to its future, with other companies seeking not to partner with the mobile phone maker.

Despite the leaked documents leading to much online commentary over Samsung, its dealings with Google and its ongoing battle with Apple, there appears to be no timeline for a new operating system to be released. It could be years before Samsung has the capacity to develop and implement an entirely new system that could compete with Android or iPhone.
