As Samsung kicks off its Galaxy S5 global launch, the company has added a new web page for a Verizon Galaxy S5 Developer Edition. The company posted a message letting customers know it's coming soon.
It's safe to assume that sales of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will outpace its predecessor, Galaxy S4. Each new Galaxy S and Galaxy Note phablet has outsold the previous generation and it also helps that many Galaxy S3 owner's 2-year contracts are expiring, making it almost inevitable that most will likely upgrade to the latest and greatest Galaxy S5 smartphone.
If you're the type of person who likes to hack your Android smartphone and load it up with custom ROMs, you'll be happy to know that Samsung has just posted that Verizon will be getting the Galaxy S5 Developer Edition soon. The smartphone ships with an unlockable bootloader that makes it much easier to root the device and tinker. Verizon's standard Galaxy S5 is completely locked down and there's no telling how long it will take before someone is able to achieve root status on the handset.
The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 Developer Edition will be offered in Charcoal Black and features the same specs and features as the standard Galaxy S5. You'll have its gorgeous 5.1-inch 1920 x 1080 full HD super AMOLED display that has a pixel density of 432 pixels per inch (ppi) and was recently named "best smartphone display ever tested by DisplayMate. The handset is powered by Qualcomm's new 2.5-GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU and boasts 2GB of RAM to ensure a speedy user experience.
According to Samsung, the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 Developer Edition will only be offered in a model with 16GB of internal storage, but users can easily expand that via its microSD expansion slot, which now supports up to 128-GB microSD cards. Its camera capabilities consist of a high-end 16-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera for video chat and selfies. It ships with the latest version of Android 4.4.2 and packs a large 2,800-mAh battery that Samsung claims will provide up to 12 hours of 4G LTE web browsing and 13 hours via Wi-Fi. Milliamp hours (mAh) are used to describe how much energy a battery can store at one time.
Samsung hasn't mentioned a price or release date as of this time, but expect to pay $599 to $699 for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 Developer Edition when it becomes available to purchase. We'll be sure to alert you when that happens.
