The spec rumours are starting early on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 4 phablet. The portable computing device, which will likely debut in early Fall, is expected to feature a Galaxy S5-like design, possible 2K display, and more.
Samsung is about to launch its flagship Galaxy S5 on April 11 and details about the company's future smartphones have been leaking at a steady rate. We recently learned the reported specs of the camera-centric Galaxy S5 Zoom, which is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Details regarding the company's Galaxy S5 mini have also made their way online, giving us a glimpse into Samsung's plan for the miniature smartphone.
The latest leak comes in the form of reported specs of Samsung's next-generation Galaxy Note 4 phablet. According to a post from Chinese blog CMNO, the Galaxy Note 4 is expected to ship with a display that will be a higher resolution than the Galaxy S5. It was initially believed the Galaxy S5 would ship in two versions; a "Standard" model with a 1920 x 1080 full HD display and a high-end "Prime" model boasting a 2K display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440.
The site claims the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will likely ship with a 2K display and even suggests that the phablet might use an Ultra HD 4K display with a resolution of 3480 x 2160, although that seems pretty far fetched at this point. The report also backs up previous claims the Galaxy Note 4 will be waterproof and dust-resistant like the Galaxy S5 and will also feature a similar design.
The source claims Samsung will use a 64-bit "next-generation 20-nanometer process" that will be based off Samsung's Exynos processor or a new Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and pack in 4GB of RAM and a larger 3,600 to 3,800mAh battery.
The site also gives details on the Galaxy Note 4's camera and claims it will be very similar to the camera found on the Galaxy S5 and reportedly feature a 20.1-megapixel rear camera. We should also expect to see some new built-in S Pen functionality.
There's no word on when the Galaxy Note 4 will be unveiled but if we follow Samsung's Galaxy Note release pattern over the last couple of years, we should expect to see the phablet officially announced at the IFA trade show in September.
As with all rumors of unannounced high-profile devices like the Galaxy Note 4, take this report with a big grain of salt for now.
