Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom image leaks reveal smartphone's slimmer design and 20-megapixel camera

A new image of what is reportedly Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S5 Zoom has leaked and provide a peek at what the device actually looks like.

The launch of the Galaxy S5 appears to be taking the same path of last year's Galaxy S4 debut and that's not likely making Samsung happy. Shortly after the Samsung Galaxy S4 went on sale news began to spread that Samsung was plannning a few variants based off the flagship smartphone. We quickly learned there was a Galaxy S4 Active, S4 Zoom, and S4 Mini in the works.

Over the next couple of weeks the rumors intesified as Samsung scheduled a press event to unveil its new smartphones. Unfortunately for Samsung, it saw all three smartphone's full specs and images get unveiled by leakers before the official event. This forced the company to publicly announce the smartphones ahead of schedule via press releases since every detail of the three Galaxy S4 variants were appearing all over the web.

This week it appears as if history may be repeating itself, as we recently reported the Galaxy S5 Zoom's official specs have leaked. A few days later, news of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active made its way online and we found out the rugged Galaxy S5 variant would be making its way to AT&T and Sprint.

An image of the newest handset, the 20-megapixel packing camera-centric Galaxy S5, was posted by a site called KZoom, which refers to the device as "Samsung Galaxy K Zoom." That appears to be the name the site gave the smartphone and not its official Galaxy S5 Zoom name.

The site mentions most of what has already been reported and says the smartphone is "Much thinner, Lighter, 20MP, 10X zoom, NFC. Better than the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom."

The smartphone does seem appear bulky and its camera lens does not protrude when compared to the Galaxy S4 Zoom. The Galaxy S5 Zoom is expected to feature a 4.8-inch 720p display and run Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The handset is expected to be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon processor of Samsung's Exynos octa-core processor and 1.5-2GB of RAM. The S5 Zoom's standout feature, and reason for its existence, can be found in the high-end 20-megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and Xenon flash.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom is expected to be announced at a Samsung event in May, alongside the Galaxy S5 Active and Galaxy S5 mini. But those press events could easily change if leak reports continue.
