Sprint promises HD Voice service across U.S. for crystal-clear calls by July

Nothing beats the voice. You can put all the images you can in your head, but let's face it, there's just something about hearing someone's voice that makes you feel the love all the more.

Which is why Sprint announced that its HD voice service will be available across the United States in July 2014.

"Voice is still the killer app," Sprint CEO Dan Hesse in fact said this during a speaking engagement at the Oracle Industry Connect conference.

The announcement came during the said conference. Other than the Oracle conference, the company made no official statement yet.

Some devices have already received the HD Voice update over the past few months. To increase the compatibility list further, expect the carrier to have continuous device updates. The voice service, however, will only work with compatible devices. Nonetheless, you could expect that the carrier will roll out an update that would bring support for the feature.

Many smartphones in the market now only support four octaves, but the HD Voice sets the bar a few notches higher by increasing voice call clarity across seven octaves. Reports say having the HD Voice shows a significant upgrade in the existing audio technology. It provides more natural-sounding voices. It also lowers background noise while in use.

HD Voice is compatible with most flagship mobile devices, which includes iPhone 5C and 5S, HTC One, Nexus 5, Samsung Galaxy S5, One Max, LG G2, and Moto X.

First expected to be available in 2013, the company admits delays to the service. The service has only been deployed so far in a few markets such as Kansas City.

"We expect to have HD Voice available network-wide by mid-2014," Hesse said.

Collin Gibbs of Gigaom Research said that many carriers have set their focus on data networks, making the quality of voice calls suffer.

Glassdoor has just released its list of Highest Rated CEOs from big companies, and Hesse has been included in the list. Glassdoor bases its report on last year's feedback from company employees.

"He is the only CEO of a telecommunications company to be recognized this year," the company wrote in its website.

Hesse continues to be recognized in many award-giving organizations, including the Lifetime Achievement Award by Corporate Responsibility Magazine and 10 Inspirational Leaders who Turned Around Their Companies by Entrepreneur Magazine.
