Sprint is the first carrier to announce Samsung Galaxy S5 release date and is now taking pre-orders

Sprint is now the third carrier of the major four to announce Samsung Galaxy S5 launch plans. It's also the first carrier to announce the smartphone's release date.

Samsung is gearing up for its biggest smartphone launch this year with its flagship Galaxy S5. U.S. Galaxy S5 fans are now able to pre-order the device from two carriers currently and T-Mobile will open up its pre-orders on March 24. Sprint has become the third U.S. carrier to announce its Samsung Galaxy S5 launch plans and it's also the first U.S. carrier to announce an exact release date, beyond "early April", which AT&T is currently quoting.

Sprint has just started accepting pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S5 at Sprint retail stores. The carrier will then contact those customers to complete their purchase as soon as devices become available. Sprint says that interested customers wanting a Galaxy S5 on April 11 should pre-order as soon as possible. The carrier is charging $199.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate when signing a new two-year contract, which is currently the lowest price out of AT&T and T-Mobile, and very likely Verizon who hasn't announced its Galaxy S5 launch plans yet.

"Samsung Galaxy S5 is exactly the type of device Sprint Spark and Sprint Family were designed for," said David Owens, vice president of Product, Sprint. "Galaxy S5 customers will be able to do more than ever with their smartphone, and they will appreciate the ability to use all three bands of 4G LTE wireless network spectrum available on the Sprint network for an enhanced LTE experience and won't want to wait for a slow network to catch up while they're enjoying the incredible features of this exciting device."

The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with some nice upgrades compared to the Galaxy S4. Its camera has received a major update with a new 16-megapixel sensor and exclusive enhanced features that make images look amazing and also allows you to record 4K Ultra HD video.

Samsung has also given its S Health a major update that takes advantage of the smartphone's built-in heart rate monitor. It's achieved by simply placing your finger on a sensor that's located below the Galaxy S5's rear camera. Samsung has also increased the smartphone's 1080p display to 5.1-inches and given it a faster quad-core processor.
