All four of the major carriers in the U.S. have pledged their support to Samsung and will offer the company's latest flagship smartphone to its millions of subscribers in April.
We've finally received word that all four of the major U.S. carrier will offer the Samsung Galaxy S5 in the coming weeks. The smartphone is Samsung's high-end smartphone of 2014 and its answer to Apple's iPhone 5s, even down to its included fingerprint sensor housed in its home button.
That's right, Samsung had no trouble taking inspiration from Apple. Ever since Apple launched the iPhone 5s with its TouchID, Android rivals have been trying to offer consumers devices like the HTC One Max, which has a fingerprint scanner on the rear of the device that unlocks the device and can be programmed to launch specific applications or actions designated by the user. And now, Galaxy S5 has followed suit.
The Galaxy S5 still maintains and highlights Samsung's expertise with displays. Its 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display is just large enough to make watching videos on a smartphone feel enjoyable enough to sometimes make you forget you're watching an HD video on a smartphone. Samsung has also shipped the Galaxy S5 with a new version of TouchWiz that makes using the skin more enjoyable than past releases. The handset also has an upgraded 16-megapixel camera for camera buffs.
Samsung Galaxy S5 fans in the U.S. now have a release date to look forward to. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile have all publicly stated that they will offer the Samsung Galaxy S5 in April. No one is giving any firm dates at this time, though.
As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 432 pixels per inch (ppi). It's powered by a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 800, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU), and 2GB of RAM. It will be offered in both 16GB and 32GB models, and it also includes a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64GB microSD cards. It's also water-resistant and dust proof.
The Galaxy S5 will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and an updated version of Samsung Touchwiz UI on board. Its camera capabilities include a 16-megapixel rear camera that has the ability to record Ultra HD video @ 30fps, HDR rich tone, selective focus, and more. It also has a 2-megapixel front facing camera for video chat. The smartphone includes an update to S Health 3.0 and ships with a 2,800 mAh battery.
When we hear more concrete launch dates, we'll be sure to pass them on to you. At least we're only looking at a few weeks from now.
