Remember that cool "African choir" cover of Frozen's "Let It Go?" Hold onto that; we're going to circle back to it in a minute.
When you think of dancing to today's hottest songs, you don't usually think of senior citizens. It's nothing personal. It's not agist. It's just not practical to expect the elderly to get down on "Shake It Off" or "Anaconda." They aren't built for it. But don't tell that to these seniors, who hooked up with singer Alex Boye for a funktastic cover of song-of-the-moment "Uptown Funk."
On the YouTube page, Boye — who appears in the video with makeup effects to look the same age as everyone else — says that his dancers in the video are known as the "Golden Girls," or their more informal nickname, "The Dancing Grandmas." Apparently, they take their dancing talents to basketball games in Utah, where they perform at half-time.
The various elderly folks in the video range in age from 65-years-old all the way up to 92. Boye notes: "They have raised 500 children, 1,200 grandchildren, and 250 great-grandchildren!"
Right about now, you may be trying to figure out where you know the name Alex Boye from. Chances are, you have heard the name. Boye is a singer/songwriter who's become known for covering popular songs from pop culture.
Which brings us back to where we started. Boye is the man behind that popular Africanized Tribal Cover of "Let It Go," featuring the One Voice Children's Choir.
You can learn more about Alex Boye at his official website. He's also offering his "Uptown Funk" cover as a free download for a limited time at Reverb Nation.
