As a way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film The Sound of Music, Lady Gaga was asked to be part of the tribute by singing a medley of songs from the musical film's soundtrack at the recently concluded 2015 Oscars.
With the orchestra playing in the background, Lady Gaga wowed the audience with her impressive rendition as she donned an elegant white gown. She sang four tracks, namely "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," "Edelweiss" and "Climb Every Mountain."
Lady Gaga earned a standing ovation for her performance at the Oscars, which of course was attended by Hollywood's A-list stars. Julie Andrews who was also at the awards ceremony was blown away with Mother Monster's medley. The veteran stage and movie actress gave Lady Gaga a hug as she arrived on the stage.
"Thank you for that beautiful performance. It really warmed my heart, it did," said Andrews in front of the audience. "It's hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released. Great music does more than enhance a film. It cements our memories in the filmgoing experience."
Andrews then presented an award to The Grand Budapest Hotel, which won the Oscar for Best Original Score.
Everybody knows that Lady Gaga can sing and that she is one total performer. However, her versatility in singing hadn't been established that much until her Oscar performance.
As Lady Gaga belted out the very same songs that made Andrews famous and well respected in the business, the pop star also brought back memories of the iconic movie and the melodies that defined it and also earned for herself the respect of Hollywood's elite. With every note, Lady Gaga proved herself worthy of her own iconic status in the entertainment industry.
Andrews' The Sound of Music had a sweeping win in the Oscars in the year that it was nominated. It is credited with five Oscar statues, which include Best Music and Best Picture. Andrews and Peggy Wood also earned lead and supporting actress nominations respectively.
People on social media shared their thoughts on Lady Gaga's Oscar performance.
