Google Confirms Maps Timeline Data Removal
The Verge reported that Google Maps is currently suffering from an issue where Timeline data that is saved by the app has been disappearing for some users as it no longer showing previous search results. Timeline data is a collection of the visited or searched places on the Maps app, and users may return to these places easily by clicking or tapping on the name for easier navigation.
However, this said feature has been no longer appearing on Google Maps for some users, and many shared their frustrations on social media platforms and forums like Reddit.
Google's spokesperson, Genevieve Park, recently confirmed to The Verge that the company experienced a "brief technical issue" that led to this Timeline data deletion for some users.
Only Cloud Backups Remain Available
According to Park, users who have encrypted Timeline backups may restore these data easily via the app. However, for those who have not made cloud backups of the Maps app, these Timeline data will no longer be available to recover or restore.
Users may check if they have cloud backups by going to their profile > Your Timeline > and choosing the cloud icon.
