A Redditor shared an experience in which a company used AI to conduct a spontaneous job interview at 8 a.m. on a Sunday, and they're not the only one.
Reddit user AffectionateSteak588 posted in r/interviews that they had been woken up from a dead sleep by their ringing phone on a Sunday morning. It turned out it was an AI system following up an application the Redditor had completed the night prior.
"I was completely taken off guard but it explained itself and the position that I had applied for. I ended up going through this AI interview but it's safe to say I had completely bombed it," the Redditor wrote, adding that they felt the AI interview "was completely unfair due to having no warning and being caught completely off guard, especially with the interview's timing."
While some Redditors were shocked at the incident, and questioned why the original poster answered the call, others shared similar experiences. OrangeWolf33 shared a "horrible" experience answering AI interview questions for an unnamed company.

"When it was done, I found the contact information for my contact at that staffing agency and called them up immediately. I explained how poor the experience was. They admitted it was round 2 or 3 for trials using that AI, and they'd gotten a lot of similar feedback," the Reddit user shared.
Experts predict AI will continue shaking up the job market. Between 20% and 50% of companies around the globe are using AI at some point in the hiring process, according to reporting by the Washington Post.
"Everybody should be thinking about AI, no matter what they do for a living," said Lawrence H. Summers, co-author of the "Technological Disruption in the Labor Market" report. "Because AI can be highly empowering. But it also means certain types of activities won't be done by people anymore."
