Apple Mac Mini to Get M4 Chipset Coming Later This Year—What to Expect?

The Mac mini is getting the M4 chip in this year's update.

It has been a year since Apple last updated the Mac mini, but for this year, it is planning a massive revamp to the lineup where it would be given the latest M4 chipset to power its modern offers. This latest rumored update for the Mac mini with M4 is a significant upgrade for the all-in-one computer, particularly as its last update last January 2023 featured old chips.

Previous rumors claim that all of Apple's computer lineup will get its latest chips in the upcoming releases.

A new revelation from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman shared speculation behind Apple's plans to deliver an upgraded Mac mini computer for this year, and it will sport the latest chipset from the company, the M4. It is important to note that the last chips Apple installed on the Mac mini last January 2023 were the M2 and M2 Pro processors which are already two generations older.

However, with the reports on Apple focusing on an entire lineup revamp for the Mac computers with the M4, the Mac mini would be part of this upgrade as well.

This means that Apple would skip the M3 series, including the M3 Pro and M3 Max, for the Mac mini development that is speculated to arrive soon.

What to Expect from M4 Mac Mini Later This Year?

It was added by Gurman that the Mac Mini with the M4 chipset is set to be introduced by late 2024, and it will also feature new size reduction changes that would make it smaller and slimmer. It was revealed by Gurman that the M4 Mac mini would have a close form factor to the Apple TV 4K black box, and it will feature around three USB-C ports which remains unknown if it will be Thunderbolt-4, a dedicated power port, and HDMI.

Apple's M4 Chipset and Current Applications

Despite Apple missing out on announcing what more it has to offer with its M4 lineup and its application to computers, many believe that it will soon follow up with the upgrade for later this year. There is still a long list of Apple Macs that are awaiting its M4 upgrade, including the likes of its MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the Mac Mini, and the iMac.

While current timelines and expectations of M4 Macs' arrival are set for late 2024 and early 2025, it is important to note that there is already an existing device equipping Cupertino's current most powerful chip. This is last May's release of the iPad Pro with the M4 chipset, now the most powerful device in Apple's lineup, delivered via the Let Loose event alongside new accessories.

While Apple's Crush ad gave the iPad and M4 a bad rep, there is still a lot to expect from the upcoming Mac releases from Cupertino that would deliver the newfound power of its latest SoC. Apart from the regularly updated releases of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, Cupertino is also planning an M4 revamp for the Mac mini, jumping straight to its top Silicon processor, head-first.
