Apple's highly anticipated iPhone 16 series is set to make a splash this September, and suppliers are ramping up production to meet the expected demand.
According to a recent report by Korean online newspaper ETNews, Apple's key suppliers, Samsung Display and LG Display, have significantly increased the mass production of OLED panels for the iPhone 16 lineup.
With this, the aim of the Cupertino tech titan is to ensure that it can meet its ambitious shipment targets for the new models.
Increased Production to Meet High Demand
In June, both Samsung Display and LG Display commenced the initial production of OLED panels for the iPhone 16. As demand forecasts became clearer, production was significantly ramped up in July to meet Apple's shipment target of 90 million units. To ensure an ample supply, approximately 120 million OLED panels are expected to be produced, marking a 30% increase over the projected number of iPhone 16 units.
Samsung Display, the leading supplier, is on track to deliver around 80 million OLED panels by the end of the year. Meanwhile, LG Display is set to contribute approximately 43 million panels.
Both companies are adhering to a tight production schedule to meet these ambitious targets, ensuring a smooth supply chain operation.

Supply Chain in Full Swing for September Launch
As production ramps up, these OLED panels are being dispatched to various factories within Apple's supply chain. These factories are responsible for assembling the final iPhone 16 models, ensuring that everything is in place for a timely September release.
Historically, Apple has launched new iPhone models around mid-September, and this year is expected to follow suit, with Tuesday, Sept. 10, being a potential announcement date, according to MacRumors.
iPhone 16 Series Will Boast Bigger Displays and Enhanced Features
The iPhone 16 series, comprising the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, is expected to retain a similar design to the iPhone 15 lineup. However, Apple plans to introduce larger displays for the Pro models.
The iPhone 16 Pro will feature a 6.3-inch display, up from 6.1 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will boast a 6.9-inch display, an increase from 6.7 inches. The standard iPhone 16 models will maintain their current sizes, with the iPhone 16 at 6.1 inches and the iPhone 16 Plus at 6.7 inches.
In addition to the larger displays, the iPhone 16 series is rumored to include several new features. A new "Capture" button will reportedly be added for easier image and video capture in landscape mode.
The iPhone maker is also expected to introduce faster A-series chips, camera enhancements, and support for Wi-Fi 7 and faster 5G modems in select models, ensuring that the iPhone 16 remains at the cutting edge of smartphone technology.
On top of that, another rumor claims that a bigger battery boost is coming to the iPhone 16 Pro, as per Tech Times.
With enhanced features, larger displays, and a streamlined supply chain, the iPhone 16 series is positioned to be one of the most successful releases in Apple's history.
If it is true that the iPhone 16 Plus will be the last of its kind, maybe we could potentially see the iPhone 17 Slim more than a year from now.
To wrap it up, the upcoming launch in September will undoubtedly capture the attention of tech enthusiasts and consumers worldwide, as they eagerly await the next evolution of the iPhone.
