Malaysia's southern state of Johor has recently received its first Tesla Supercharging Station, marking a major move forward for Malaysia's EV infrastructure.
This development marks the second such station to grace Malaysian soil; the first one was launched in Kuala Lumpur.
Furthermore, the highly anticipated arrival of the Tesla Model 3 Highland in Malaysia is just around the corner.
Tesla's Strategic Choice of Johor
Straits Times reports that the inauguration of Johor's first Tesla Supercharging Station took place at Sunway Big Box in Iskandar Puteri, with the event attended by key officials, including Johor Chief Minister Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
This milestone aligns perfectly with the state government's ambitious Maju Johor 2030 agenda, which strongly emphasizes green technology development.
Lee Ting Han, a state government executive council member, explained, "We are happy that Tesla chose Johor as its second location in the country for a supercharging station after the first one in Kuala Lumpur.
"According to Tesla, one of the factors why Johor was picked was based on data that showed Tesla users in the state were the second highest after the capital city," the official told the public.
The strategic selection of Johor promises to attract more EV enthusiasts, possibly even luring Singaporean car owners across the border.
Tesla Model 3 Highland on the Horizon
In tandem with the grand unveiling of the Supercharging Station, Teslarati reported that Tesla Regional Director Isabel Fan hinted at the imminent arrival of the Tesla Model 3 Highland in Malaysia.
This eagerly awaited EV will make its debut at the newly opened Tesla Center in Cyberjaya, setting the stage for a new era of electric mobility in the country.
The Tesla Center in Malaysia serves as more than just a retail outlet. It provides a holistic customer experience, encompassing sales, service, delivery, and after-sales support.
The first deliveries of the Model 3 Highland are expected to commence late this year, according to Tesla Malaysia's order page.
For those interested in the Model 3 refresh, prices start at RM 189,000 (US$40,000) for the rear-wheel-drive variant, while the Dual-Motor Long Range version comes at RM 219,000 (US$46,300) before additional options.
Tesla Malaysia offers a range of paint choices, with white as the standard option, while black, blue, gray, and red come at varying additional costs.
Tesla Malaysia
Tesla's foray into the Malaysian market has not only created excitement among EV enthusiasts but is also seen as a catalyst for Malaysia's efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and drive economic growth through high-skilled job creation.
With the opening of the Supercharging Station and the impending arrival of the Model 3 Highland, Malaysia's EV landscape is set for a transformative period.
