Ex-Google Exec Alfredo Arroyo Joins Low-Speed EV Company Waev as COO

Waev manufactures and provides support for GEM, Taylor-Dunn, and Tiger brands.

Waev, a firm specializing in electric mobility, has recently appointed former Google exec Alfredo Arroyo to chief operations officer (COO) and senior vice president.

An EV Startup

According to Electrek, Waev's GEM cars are low-speed vehicles (LSVs) designed for use in residential areas, making them suitable for use on public roads throughout the US.

They are ubiquitous sights on the roads of planned communities, university campuses, airports, and other huge facilities, proving their widespread appeal as both personal and business vehicles.

Taylor-Dunn is a brand of the commercial vehicle made by Waev. The Tiger subsidiary of the firm manufactures tractors fit for towing aircraft and other large equipment.

As Waev approaches its first anniversary since being split off from Polaris, the appointment of Arroyo indicates an investment in operations.

Recruiting a Former Lead

Waev claims that the need for a new level of operations leadership has arisen due to high market demand and substantial expansion potential.

Arroyo will be in charge of the company's worldwide production and supply chain. With his arrival, Waev has made its first executive-level appointment since its separation from Polaris.

Waev CEO Keith Simon noted that the recruitment comes as the company is ramping up its operations.

He said that Arroyo's ability to speed up operations is crucial to the company and that his worldwide supply chain and manufacturing processes are key to its future growth.

"We're stoked to have him join the Waev team," said Simon.

Arroyo as an Ex-Google Boss

For ten years, Arroyo worked for Google in executive capacities throughout the company's contract manufacturing, enterprise solutions, supply chain management, and logistics execution teams.

He was a key architect at Google, helping to design the massive ecosystem of employees, equipment, and software that supports the company's international network of data centers.

According to Waev, Arroyo was awarded the renowned Feats of Engineering award inside Google for his work in designing, engineering, and operations management of the company's first completely automated site.

In addition to supervising Google Cloud's massive growth into the European cloud market, Arroyo oversaw the company's data center and logistics operations in the UK, Germany, and Switzerland.

Waev currently manufactures, sells, and provides service for three distinct electric car lines, so he will have his hands busy from the get-go.

Arroyo appears up for the job, and he laid forth some ambitious plans for Waev's growth.

In a statement he shared with Electrek, Arroyo expressed his anticipation as he takes over Waev's first COO position. He said it is an exciting opportunity to work with the team to rapidly advance operational capabilities in support of their expanding customer base and market presence.

Arroyo admitted that he and Waev's CEO Simon worked together in the past and kept in contact.

"Things naturally connected after Keith reached out and presented the opportunity," Arroyo stated.

"I am impressed with what these guys have done at Waev - both the business they have built and equally the team culture they have created."
