Instagram Notes is now bringing Twitter-like features to the video and photo-sharing app to more users.
The text-focused feature is now rolling out to all Instagram users as it finally exits the testing phase. The Facebook parent firm, Meta, has been testing the Twitter-like function for a few months now.
And this time, it is ready for the world to see.
Instagram Notes Brings Twitter-Like Features to DMs
As per the latest report by the Mac Rumors, Instagram Notes has finally debuted, allowing users to post text updates, much like how Twitter works.
It is worth noting that Twitter is in the middle of some sort of chaos after billionaire Elon Musk took over the service. Some prominent figures and advertisers have decided to pull out of the microblogging platform.
And previously, the blue verification check mark has been available to all paying users. Thus, some folks started impersonating high-profile users on Twitter, which did not spare the Chief Twit himself.
But to be fair, Musk is also on to something there. The tech entrepreneur is looking to make the social network profitable. He is also trimming down the number of bots.
However, not everyone is impressed. And as such, some users are leaving the service.
With that, it looks like Meta is taking the opportunity to grab some of them. Instagram has begun dishing out its Twitter-like feature to its users.
According to a news story by Tech Crunch, Instagram says that while it was testing the new feature, it learned that users "liked having a lightweight, easy way to share what's on the mind." Sure, that is what Twitter has been offering all this time.
How to Use Instagram Notes: Is it Similar to Twitter?
Instagram Notes is available on the direct messages or the DM section. It allows users to share text and emoji updates with their followers.
And similar to tweets, "Notes" also wants users to keep their posts short. The new feature only lets users type 60 characters, which is way shorter than tweets.
Unlike Twitter, these text posts somewhat work like Stories. It only appears in the DM section for a day or 24 hours.
Essentially, it is like Meta tried marrying Snapchat and Twitter. You can post tweets-like updates, but it only lasts for a day.
But do note that these text updates only appear at the top of your direct messages. It does not have a feed option.
