Since Elon Musk's Twitter takeover, there have been a lot of changes, advertisers pulled out, employees resigned, and the Blue service has been suspended.
And as such, it seems that Facebook's parent firm, Meta, is reportedly working on a Twitter rival app amid all these.
Elon Musk's Twitter Takeover is Reportedly Pushing Facebook Parent to Work on a Rival App
As per the recent news story by The New York Times, Meta workers recently had a brainstorming session, which centers on building an app that would rival Twitter.
The news outlet saw the conversation between the employees, revealing their discussions. It disclosed plans to create a text-based platform or to expand the rollout of Instagram notes.
The latter is already a thing on IG. It lets users share short texts with their followers on the photo and video-sharing service.
Meanwhile, other suggestions floated the idea of building an entirely new app.
One of the employees reportedly blurted out that "Twitter is in crisis." The post during the brainstorming session went on to say that "Meta needs its mojo back." "LET'S GO FOR THEIR BREAD AND BUTTER," the worker allegedly added.
A Twitter-Like Meta App?
According to the latest report by Interesting Engineering, the session of Meta employees raised the plant to work on a separate app similar to Twitter.
The text-only app could potentially be based on the technology that Meta uses for Instagram. But instead of heavily showing videos and photos, this one focuses mainly on text.
Apart from that, the employees reportedly discussed what the new service should be called. Some of the suggested names are "Instant" and "Realtime." The other potential name for the Twitter rival is "Real Reels."
Interesting Engineering notes in its report that Meta has previously imitated the hottest social networks to rival their success.
For instance, the new Reels feature on Facebook and Instagram mimics how TikTok works. The Stories function also competed directly with Snapchat in its heydays.
The news outlet highlighted that the big boss of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, was once interested in buying Twitter. In fact, he offered to purchase the microblogging service back in 2008 for roughly $500 million.
But we know how it ended, Twitter shrugged off this offer.
