Twitter previously worked on end-to-end encryption for its Direct Messages in the platform to make it secure and private for users to enjoy but did not push through for unknown reasons. Elon Musk previously spoke about this during the early days of the company's acquisition, something which it aims to do when he steps in and becomes its head.
Now that Musk is Chief Twit and the new owner of the company, it seems like this feature is already in the works, one which the tech CEO teased in his latest tweet.
Twitter End-to-End Encryption DMs Coming Soon?
A famed security researcher and blogger from Hong Kong, Jane Manchun Wong, has announced that she found codes that point to the direction of Musk's Twitter delivering the famed end-to-end encryption for DMs.
Here, Wong said that she retrieved pieces of evidence and signs pointing toward the development of this feature, via Twitter for Android.
This tweet was noticed by Twitter's top boss, Elon Musk, to which he replied with a winking emoji but did not say any words regarding the feature or plans for it.
It seems like this was something of a confirmation from Musk, also acting as a teaser for the upcoming feature for Twitter to deliver to the world, arriving soon.
Will Elon Musk Make it Like Signal?
There are no details or information about what the experience would be like when Twitter launches its new end-to-end encryption service for Direct Messages.
It is important to note that this will be new grounds for Twitter, something which it would deliver as a new feature for all. Nevertheless, Musk is known to be a Signal Messenger fan and may base this on the renowned secure instant messaging application.
Twitter and Musk's Plans
Elon Musk spoke of the Twitter DMs which he aims to change and evolve into an end-to-end encrypted service when he was initially planning to buy the company from its owners. In Musk's words, he wanted it to be "like Signal," and the top billionaire is known for being fond of the company from Moxie Marlinspike, which allows users to keep their privacy and data.
Signal Messenger rose to fame as a WhatsApp alternative, especially during the time that it asked to give the public's information to a third-party app, also its parent company, Facebook.
However, this was not the first time where Twitter was linked to an end-to-end encryption service for its Direct Messages, as a 2018 rumor previously talked about the possibility of delivering this for its users. Many of Twitter's users and subscribers awaited this feature, but sadly, it did not arrive for the platform and did not have any further information behind it.
Now, there seem to be new plans for Twitter's DMs, especially in allowing the public to use them with end-to-end encryption needs, centering on the many advancements it will bring to boost protection and security. Musk's plans may be coming into place, as the tech CEO also teased this feature via his tweet, but it is currently unknown when it would arrive.
