Google Career Certificates Launched in the UK
This partnership and Career Certificate program was announced in a dedicated Google blog post with some information shared on just what the program entails and how people can get started honing their online and digital skills.
Google will offer career-focused courses in four key areas including Data Analyst, IT Support, Project Manager, and UX Designer roles, according to 9to5Google.
The tech giant is currently working with the Department for Work and Pensions to offer 9,500 scholarships throughout the UK, 500 of which will be offered directly through Camden Council, while 9,000 will be provided nationwide.
That is not all, as Google is also providing funding to the Prince's Trust and INCO Academy to ensure that 1,500 young people from various communities are able to obtain a Career Certificate.
To support the need to learn these new skills, Google is distributing 9,500 Google Career Certificate scholarships in the UK, through government partnership with the DWP and Camden Council.
Google is also providing grant funding to The Prince's Trust and INCO Academy through Google to make sure that an additional 1,500 young people from underrepresented and disadvantaged communities across the UK can take advantage of the training opportunity.
No prior experience or qualifications are needed to apply in the online courses, with the ability to fit the learning around your schedule.
Each course is estimated to take around six months to complete, with Google issuing an endorsed Career Certificate for completion. For more information and details on the application process visit the dedicated Google Career Certificates site.
What You Need to Know About Google Career Certificates
The Google Career Certificate courses generally take three to six months to complete. Users set their own pace, so the time it takes to finish varies.
The certificates for IT support, IT automation, UX design, data analytics, and project management are offered on Coursera for $39 a month each, according to US News.
So, that means that a six-month course is $234. Scholarships are available. There is no charge for the Associate Android Developer Certification training. However, the certification exams costs $149 per attempt.
The courses are taught by Google employees.
Google's approach uses gamified learning by providing an interactive approach to covering the material, says Julia Pollak, a labor economist with ZipRecruiter. Pollak stated that it is a much better online learning experience than a classroom lecture through Zoom.
The Google Project Management Professional Certificate is for those who want to plan, organize, and run projects. This incudes such jobs as project manager, program manager, scrum master, and project analyst.
Skills include estimating time and budgets, managing stakeholders, and identifying and managing risks.
While professional certification is not needed for project managers, it can demonstrate your knowledge in the field. Those who complete the certificate qualify to receive credit toward credentials like the Project Management Institute's Certified Associate in Project Management certification, at a lower price.
