As much as you might like to think, home security cameras aren't all that effective despite the ads they put out. Police have partnered with Ring to bring down crime rates in neighborhoods but have so far had minimal success.

Ring's security devices advertise themselves as a way to have that peace of mind people crave for when going home, which is all well and good. They even partnered up with law enforcement agencies to provide additional security that is indeed transparent for all to see.

Law Enforcement and Other Testimonials

NBC News spoke with over 40 law enforcement agencies in eight states that have affiliated themselves with Ring for about three months. We have a quote from the article about the progress they have made so far with this partnership:

"Thirteen of the 40 jurisdictions reached, including Winter Park, said they had made zero arrests as a result of Ring footage. Thirteen were able to confirm arrests made after reviewing Ring footage, while two offered estimates. The rest, including large cities like Phoenix, Miami, and Kansas City, Missouri, said that they don't know how many arrests had been made as a result of their relationship with Ring - and therefore could not evaluate its effectiveness - even though they had been working with the company for well over a year."

"Of the arrests that police connected to Ring, most were for low-level, non-violent property crimes, according to interviews and police records reviewed by NBC. These arrests detailed the theft of a $13 book, the theft of a Nintendo Switch video game console (and several items, including two coffee mugs, purchased from the Home Shopping Network valued at $175. In Parker County, Texas, two people were arrested for allegedly stealing a dachshund named Rufus Junior, valued at $200."

So as you can see, the arrests due to Ring have mainly been just minor and petty crimes. Not the one as advertised that could help deter more dangerous suspects and what not.

Ring had no comment.

Heightens Your Senses

As mentioned earlier, it does heighten your awareness because of the proximity alarms and as well as the sensors that come with it. It manages to ping you every time the sensors detect motion in the vicinity. It becomes much of a habit that you tend to just wait for it from time to time which Max Read, a writer for New York Magazine, said: "terrifically addictive, a wildly engaging hodgepodge of voyeurism, suspicion, unease, and mystery."

What is Ring Exactly
