PlayStation 5 Control Devs Talk About the Console's "Stand Out" Feature

Sony had finally confirmed PlayStation 5 last month, so the company is more open to talking about the newest console but still managing to keep almost everything about PS5 a secret.

When it was revealed in October, Sony only gave a vague time window as to when it will be released, saying it should be available by holiday 2020, and that the controller that comes with it would have two new features, never before seen in any console controller.

Rumored PS5 Price and Released Date

PSU said that there had been rumors circulating that PlayStation 5 will be released on November 20, 2020, which will coincide with their plan to launch it in time for the holiday season.

It also seems like Sony PS5's price has also been leaked and will start at $499, and a reasonable price, especially since it has some "stand out" SSD feature, according to Remedy Entertainment.

Remedy Entertainmet Talks About PS5

Remedy is well known for its work on games such as Quantum Break, Control, and Max Payne, and they have recently spoken about Sony's upcoming game console.

Speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine, lead programmer of Remedy, Sean Donnelly said that faster hardware could make life easier, but it's the console's SSD that seems to be stealing the show.

"It's the new SSD that really stands out; essentially streaming will become something that we don't really have to worry so much about, and it will free up some extra CPU bandwidth in the process," Donnelly added.

Ever since the PS5 was confirmed, WIRED had an exclusive interview with Sony, where they spoke about the next-gen console and said that they would be moving on from the mechanical hard-drives found in both PS3 and PS4.

The SSD's Benefits

It means that the loading times are reduced significantly and that the console's overall performance will improve substantially, as GamesRadar noted.

Additionally, the programmer explained further how the SSD is beneficial, especially to developers and to the gamers as well.

For one, SSD can lift any limitations that the current systems have for data streaming, making it possible for developers to create "richer, more detailed worlds."

With the SSD, games will also have a smaller install sizes because there is no need to duplicate the data in games, which is typically done to compensate for the slow seek times that HDDs and optical drives have—which also means you can play more games with the PS5, as you now have more space.

Basically, PlayStation 5 is a dream for both developers and the players.

Besides the SDD, Sony has also confirmed a few other PlayStation 5 features such as an 8K resolution support, backward compatibility with PS4 (meaning you can still play your PS4 games), and ray-tracing.

It also seems like PS5 can play older games from older PlayStation consoles natively; however, we can't confirm this as of now, along with the leaked price and the release date.

However, it won't be long until Sony finally announces and reveals what fans can expect from the upcoming PlayStation 5, especially since it's been long-awaited by fans.
