Tesla's 'Biggest Software Update Ever' Adds Netflix, Car-aoke

Tesla is bringing its “biggest software update ever” to its vehicles. From useful additions to ones that could make road trips more fun, Tesla pulled all the stops for Version 10.

Car-aoke, Tesla Theater

Tesla users can now continue binge-watching their favorite shows on their parked vehicles because the new Tesla update is allowing users to connect their Netflix, YouTube, Hulu or Hulu + Live TV accounts to the Model S, Model 3, and Model X. The update is also bringing iQiyi and Tencent Video access for users in China, but the company is expecting to make more global streaming services available soon.

If a user is in the mood for Karaoke time with friends or even on their own, the Tesla update also includes a Car-aoke feature that will allow users to choose a song from the massive music and song lyrics library that supports multiple languages.

On the topic of songs, the vehicles’ audio platform now also enables Spotify Premium in addition to TuneIn and Slacker Radio. Spotify capability is a top requested feature from Tesla owners.

‘Biggest Software Update Ever’

Tesla is calling Software Version 10 the “biggest software update ever," and indeed the company has raised the bar. Apart from Tesla Theater and Car-aoke, the update is bringing Smart Summon for those whose Tesla cars have the full self-driving capability. With this feature, a user can enable the car to navigate the parking lot on its own to come to them as long as the vehicle is within the user’s line of sight, a feature that will certainly be useful if it's raining or when the user has a full shopping cart.

The new update also comes with “I’m Feeling Lucky” and “I’m Feeling Hungry” features which, when activated, will bring users to a nearby restaurant or point of interest. Tesla Arcade, as well as Dashcam and Sentry Mode, are also getting updates, and Version 10 is also enabling browser access on all Model 3 Standard Range Plus and Standard Range Vehicles.

“Version 10.0 is our largest update ever, and is yet another example of how Tesla ownership continues to get better over time,” Tesla said. Customers are expected to receive update prompts to their vehicles in the coming days.
