Resident Evil 2 Guide: How To Open The Special Weapons Case

In the Resident Evil 2 remake, there's a Special Weapons Case in the underground facility of the Raccoon Police Department.

It's going to take a bit of time to open it, but the upgrades it contains are worth the trouble.

How To Unlock The Special Weapons Case

As mentioned earlier, the Special Weapons Case is in the underground facility of the RPD, which is found after you've uncovered the secret passages under the goddess statue.

What you need here is the S.T.A.R.S. Badge. Depending on whether it's your first run or second run, the steps you'll take will vary, as the latter will have moved around some items' places. It's worth noting that you can get the badge earlier in the initial run than in the second playthrough.

Regardless of which run you're on, here's what you need to do:

Step 1: Find the Red Book in the library.

Step 2: Use the Red Book on the Emperor Statue's arm in the Art Room, and you should acquire the scepter.

Step 3: Examine the scepter, and you should acquire the Red Jewel.

Step 4: Use the Red Jewel to unlock the Ornate Box, which contains the S.T.A.R.S. Badge. If you're on your first run, the box will be located in the Observation Room on the 1st Floor of the RPD. On the other hand, it will be in the Men's Shower Room on the 2nd Floor of the RPD in the second run.

Step 5: Examine the S.T.A.R.S. Badge and retract the USB key, and now it can be used to open the Special Weapons Case.

As for what's inside, Leon will get the Long Barrel for the Lightning Hawk, and it reduces recoil and increases damage. Meanwhile, Claire will get the MQ-11, and it reduces recoil and loudness.

The badge-shaped USB Dongle Key is the same one you use to open the armory to acquire the machine gun for Claire or the magnum for Leon. In the game, key items are tagged with a red check when they're safe to discard, but the badge won't get it until it's used on the Special Weapons Case, which is a clue of sorts.

The Resident Evil 2 remake launched on Jan. 25 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One and costs $59.99.
