LG released a press release in which it officially confirmed that the name of its latest smartphone will be the LG G7 ThinQ. Leaks about the new phone have been coming out in the last few days.
The phone is set to be unveiled in the United States before releasing it in South Korea.
LG G7 ThinQ
LG announced that the LG G7 ThinQ will be unveiled in New York City on May 2 and in South Korea at I-Park Mall in Yongsan-gu Seoul on May 3. This will be the first G series smartphone that features the ThinQ brand.
Smartphones with ThinQ are equipped with Voice AI that is able to recognize voice commands, and Empathic AI, which is capable of limited human-like thinking. In the press release, LG says that the LG G7 ThinQ features an upgraded version of the Empathic AI. It says that this will enhance the interoperability of the phone with other devices.
LG's artificial technology was first featured on the LG V30S. Managing director of LG Electronics Ha Jeong-wook says that the company isn't trying to fill smartphones with new features but instead make existing features more convenient.
In its announcement, LG didn't name any features that will be available on the new phone.
Leaked Details
Even though LG failed to mention any of the new features that will be available on the LG G7 ThinQ, there have already been leaks about what will be on the phone. Android Headlines posted an image that shows a press render of the new phone.
In the leak, the site was able to confirm that it will come in five colors, Aurora Black, Platinum Grey, Moroccan Blue, Moroccan Blue (Matte), and Raspberry Rose. The default option for the phones is Aurora Black.
Something that was noted on the model from the leaked photo was that it will feature an edge-to-edge screen design with a notch at the top. In the picture, the rear cameras can be seen positioned vertically unlike the G6.
Other specifications about the phone that were leaked earlier include a 6.10inch QHD+ FullVision display, 4GB/6GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB storage. It will also feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor.
The LG G7 ThinQ will also feature a f/1.5 aperture for enhanced low-light photography. There are also rumors that it will feature a button on its left-side that powers its AI-powered camera feature.
