The LG G7 will apparently be a no-show at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2018 in February, but it's reportedly "on schedule" nonetheless. However, it might have a different name.
With the MWC 2018 rapidly approaching, the mobile scene is trembling with anticipation for the latest and greatest flagships to debut at the show. The purported LG G7 was initially expected to become official at MWC as well, but it recently came to light that this is not the case.
LG G7 To Skip MWC
Earlier this month, reports revealed that the LG G7 won't debut at MWC in Barcelona, as the company would instead introduce its latest flagship at a separate event. LG wants to start over from scratch, so it decided to delay the launch until April, claimed the Korea Herald.
As it turns out, although the LG G7 will not debut at MWC, it may not be delayed after all. LG might have planned to release it later all along, and reports just assumed otherwise. At least that's what the latest statement from a company spokesperson indicates.
LG G6 Successor Is On Schedule
"The successor to the G6 is on schedule and the official name will be announced when the time is right," an LG spokesperson told Android Central. "Until then, reports of a decision being made on the timing and name are all speculative."
This indicates that not only has the LG G7 not suffered an unexpected hurdle that would delay the planned release, but it might also have a different name when it does become official. So far, the media has referred to it as the LG G7 simply based on LG's flagship names so far.
LG Flagship Rebranding
The fact that the LG spokesperson refers to it as "the successor to the G6" and mentions that it will reveal the name later on clearly suggests that the company is preparing a rebranding of sorts.
Recent reports also claimed that LG was considering a brand change for its flagship G series this year, and an LG official told The Investor at the time that rebranding flagship series is nothing new. The official further added that LG had not reached a final decision regarding the name of its next flagship smartphone.
No additional details are available at this point, and LG has yet to offer more clues as to what it will name its LG G6 successor. More information should surface soon enough, however, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
