Today marks the launch of Destiny's heavily anticipated The Dark Below expansion pack, but all of the game's fans aren't happy, in particular those who have opted not to purchase the new $20 DLC.
The problem revolves around the weekly Heroic Strike and Nightfall Strike playlist. Every week, Bungie chooses two strikes for the playlists, which ramps up the difficulty significantly for each and in return offers better end-game rewards for high-level Destiny players. It's a must-do for those looking to reach the top of Destiny's end-game.
Only this week the Heroic and Nightfall Strikes aren't an option for those who don't fork over $20 for The Dark Below. The new strike from the expansion, "The Will of Crota," is the Heroic Strike for this week, meaning players who haven't bought the DLC are out of luck for the time being.
Bungie is assuring players that the strikes will rotate out. The Heroic and Nightfall Strikes won't only be available to DLC players, but will occasionally. Activision released the following statement to Game Informer about the controversy:
"All existing strikes and maps are still accessible. Specific activities like nightfall will periodically feature expansion 1 content on the week the newest content is live."
While some fans choose to stay behind than shell out more money for the game, those who have purchased the expansion are wasting no time. Bungie is reporting that The Dark Below's new six-person raid, "Crota's End," has already been completed in six hours.
No doubt Destiny players will soon have Crota and his lackeys on farm. The game's first raid, "The Vault of Glass," featured a number of exploits players used to their advantage in order to score loot and finish the raid in record time. Bungie has slowly but surely been fixing the exploits, but with a brand new expansion fresh out of the gate it's only a matter of time before creative players find even more ways to cheese their way to victory.
