Since day one, Destiny has been a constant work in progress as developer Bungie has listened to fan feedback and adjusted the game accordingly. Now in preparation for the game's upcoming The Dark Below expansion, Bungie is making some big changes to the game's most powerful weapons.
The changes are pretty extensive. Weapons that have been considered less than great (like Thorn and Bad Juju) have gotten some potent adjustments, while guns like the SUROS Regime auto rifle have been toned down slightly. The list of tweaks to all the game's exotic weapons is too much to list here, but be sure to check out all the details on Bungie's website.
"Exotic Weapons are designed to look, feel, and sound overpowered," Bungie says in the post. "At the same time, they are not supposed to break the balance of the game. We hope these weapons challenge the way players think about their loadouts. Exotics will be a constant work in-progress!"
It's not only exotic weapons seeing changes -- exotic armor is also going to function differently moving forward. Both exotic weapons and armor no longer require Ascendant Materials to upgrade. Instead, the final upgrade for each piece of exotic gear will require one Exotic Shard, which can be obtained from dismantling exotic weapons and gear or purchased from the merchant Xur for seven strange coins.
Several other changes are coming to the game as well. A well-known exploit that had players pushing the Templar boss off its platform in the Vault of Glass raid has been fixed, and players can now purchase materials with Vanguard and Crucible Marks.
Bungie says the update will be rolling out today.
All these changes should help players get a little more powerful in preparation for the game's new raid. Judging from how difficult the Vault of Glass was for many players at the start, the extra firepower added in this update is going to be needed.
