Since it launched, Destiny has teased players with the mysterious, enormous "Hellmouth" located on Earth's Moon. You can descend into it — a little. But what lies at its heart, at the Moon's core?
On December 9, 2014, players are going to find out. That's when the highly-anticipated first expansion pack arrives. It's called "The Dark Below," and pits you against Crota, the Hive's "god," while you receive assistance, gear, bounties, and more from a new NPC named Eris.
Last week, Bungie released the prologue video that kicks off "The Dark Below," which set the stage for the expansion pack. Today, Bungie has posted a video that delves into the details of the expansion pack, showing far more footage from the new content than anything seen yet, as well as some tantalizing glimpses of the inner workings at Bungie HQ. Several Bungie developers appear to explain what makes "The Dark Below" different, what kinds of new stuff it adds to Destiny, and how it's based in part on requests players have been making.
To summarize, "The Dark Below" gives Destiny players:
• 3 new Story Missions
• 3 new Crucible Maps
• 2 new Strikes (one of which is exclusive to PlayStation)
• 1 new Raid
• 1 new Sparrow speeder
• New Bounties given out by Eris
• New weapons and armor
• New Level cap: 32
"The Dark Below" will be available to download beginning December 9 for $20, though it can be preordered from PSN or Xbox Marketplace. A bundle of the first two expansion packs (the second, "House of Wolves," is expected sometime in 2015) is also available for $35.
