It feels like fans of Destiny have been waiting a long time for new content. Even if downloadable content isn't typically available this early in a game's life cycle, players blew through Destiny and, after running out of things to do, need something new. Regardless of how you feel about the amount of content in Destiny, new DLC is already incoming. Players knew that The Dark Below and House of Wolves expansions were on their way, but until earlier today, fans had no idea when to expect them.
Bungie has finally gone into detail on the first of its two expansions, The Dark Below, and there's both good news and bad news. The good news is that the DLC isn't all that far away. The bad news is the hefty price tag that comes along with it.
According to Bungie's press release, The Dark Below will officially be released on Dec. 9 and will feature a bevy of new content for players to explore. Headlining the expansion is a new focus on story, as players find a young woman named Eris living among the Hive. Eris comes forth with a warning: the Hive are trying to summon one of their gods, Crota, and someone has to put a stop to it. The story will be broken up into three separate missions, all of which are triggered by Eris back in the Tower.
The story missions aren't the only new content, however: both a new Strike and a new Raid will be included in the expansion. The new strike, 'The Will of Crota,' will act as a bridge between the story missions and the DLC's conclusion. The Raid is said conclusion, and 'Crota's End' will see Guardians up against the Hive deity himself.
Along with the requisite level cap increase to 32 and a new armory of weapons, three Crucible maps are also included in The Dark Below: Pantheon, Skyshock and The Cauldron. For Playstation players, an exclusive Raid titled 'The Undying Mind' will also be included.
It sounds like a lot for an average-priced DLC pack; unfortunately, The Dark Below is a bit more expensive. The expansion will cost players $19.99 without the game's season pass, and picking up the season pass only nets $5 worth of savings. It's expensive, and considering that Destiny has already been criticized for a lack of content, it might be a bit more than what players are willing to pay for.
At the very least, the DLC isn't that far away: while there's still no release date for House of Wolves, The Dark Below expansion will be available Dec. 9.
