Bungie details 'Destiny' raid changes in weekly update and some fans aren't happy about them

Bungie, in its weekly updates, has continued to keep the Destiny community informed about changes coming to the game in the near future. This week's update detailed one big change coming "soon" to the Vault of Glass raid in a hot-fix, and it's upsetting more than a few fans.

The changes surround Destiny's current final boss, Atheon. Players have been discovering a number of easy ways to bring the boss down to size (such as pushing him off a cliff), and even when done in traditional fashion some players have shown Destiny's big bad isn't all that tough. The future update will first and foremost make it so Atheon can not be pushed into a bottomless pit by adding "baby bumpers" to areas where players could knock him off.

It is the raid's second change that has some concerned. As it currently stands, while fighting Atheon the boss will periodically teleport the three players furthest away from him into one of two portals. It is up to the three remaining players who were not teleported to re-open the portals so their comrades can escape before they are consumed by darkness. Most raid teams will designate a "portal" team who will stay far away from the boss in order to be teleported, while the other three members will focus on bringing them back.

Bungie says they are fixing a "bug" by changing how Atheon selects who will be teleported. No longer will far away players be sent through the portals. Instead, Atheon will randomly target three guardians.

As stated in the update, part of this reasoning is so that every player in the raid can perform every role.

"The encounter goal for Atheon is to act as a climax and the culmination of learning for a given Raid group," the update reads. "Part of that is making sure that each player in your group can perform every job as required."

But in the update's comment section, and on other Destiny community hubs like Reddit, players aren't happy with the change, saying it eliminates strategy and replaces it with randomness. Many don't agree that every player should have to be able to perform every role. It is, after all, why players are a part of a team. Some players are better equipped, or simply more skilled, and can better deal with certain situations more than others.

Bungie will also be giving a boost to the previously weakened Vex Mythoclast, a weapon that was dominating Destiny's player vs. player mode. The Mythoclast will be getting some of its power back, but it won't be the go-to weapon across the board anymore.

Fans have been vocal about Destiny since launch, and so far it seems Bungie does attempt to listen. Whether or not they will go back on their decision to change the Atheon fight is unknown, but it is a possibility if enough noise is made by the playerbase.
