VSCO Cam, a photo-editing app hailed as one of the best available for iPhone, is coming to the iPad in the form of VSCO Cam 4.0
Avid photo editors on the iPhone will have heard of VSCO Cam, which has been a standard for a few years. The app allows users to compare various filters side-by-side and makes it easier to search for the best color, filter, and contrast.
"We're really trying to take advantage of the Retina display on the iPads with the new app, but we're also trying to answer our users' needs no matter what camera they use," said the Visual Supply Company in an interview. "We've seen a lot of people shooting photos on their iPhone and editing on their iPad, and a lot of people shooting on their DSLR and editing on their iPad."
The app also now features a "sync" option, essentially meaning any edits on one device will be viewed automatically on other devices with VSCO Cam. Also, with the new Edit History feature, users will be able to undo or modify any changes made on a photo.
VSCO Cam has also been working on its use as a social network, allowing users to publish long-form photo content to the VSCO Grid. This journal feature will enable users to lay out multiple photos with text to tell the story of the photo. While this feature will be available to iOS users, it is not yet available to users on Android.
Finally, VSCO Cam has added a Preset Gallery, allowing users to compare presets side-by-side on their iPad.
The update is free and is available on the App Store for both iPhone and iPad. It's also available on Google Play for Android users.
The Android version, which launched in December 2013, provides a built-in gallery, image editing tools and a number of filters. While VSCO Cam on Android is not as functional and easy to use as the iOS version, it still offers a number of great photo-editing tools.
Another great thing about VSCO Cam is that it is not locked to photos that were taken on the device. For example, users can upload photos taken on a DSLR camera to the cloud so that they can use VSCO Cam to edit them on the go or at a later date.
VSCO Cam continues to be one of the best photo-editing apps on mobile and these new features are likely to help secure that place for the company.
