Since Samsung has delayed the launch of its flagship phone, all eyes are now on the LG G6, which will be launched on Feb. 26 at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
After the lukewarm reception of the LG G5's modular system, which has been panned by critics worldwide, the company needs to prove that it can remain as one of the world's top phone manufacturers.
New Leaked Photo Of LG G6
As we're getting closer to the phone's launch, more and more leaks are starting to show up. A leaked photo from Business Insider shows the back of the phone covered up in a shiny, black finish, similar to the Jet Black finish of the iPhone 7 Plus.
The said photo also confirms the other LG G6 rumors that have been circulating online, such as the dual rear cameras and the fingerprint scanner located at the back of the phone.
Trademark Filing: LG G6 May Come In 'Compact' Or 'Lite' Version
According to GSM Info, LG has filed trademark applications for the following names: G6 Compact, G6 Lite, G6 Hybrid, G6 Fit, G6 Sense, G6 Young, G6 Forte, and G6 Prix. The names G6 Compact and G6 Lite could mean that the G6 brand will be coming up with a budget variant, while the G6 Fit and the G6 Sense could mean that the line is also coming up with branded wearables or fitness trackers.
Not all trademark names end up being used in real products. However, LG already has a history of coming up with budget variants of its flagship phones, such as the LG G5 SE and LG G3 S.
LG G6 Will Be More Expensive
The phone is said to be more expensive by $50 than its predecessor, at least in Korea. The LG G6 is rumored to cost about $770 in Korea, higher than the $720 price tag of the LG G5 when it was launched.
LG G6 Will Be Powered By Older Processor
It was earlier reported that the LG G6 would carry Qualcomm's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835 chip. However, Forbes also came up with a report that Samsung could be getting first dibs on the first batch of the Snapdragon 835 chipset. This means that the LG G6 would probably be powered by an older and less powerful Snapdragon 821 processor. While it's still a formidable processor by itself, this development could turn some fans away from the phone.
Curious to see what other features the LG G6 might have? LG released a teaser video three weeks ago that asked people to imagine what their dream phone would look like. At the end of the video, LG says to "imagine how your wishes will come to life," which means all of the features that have been laid out in the video will come true in the G6.
