Even with only less than a month to go before LG officially unveils the G6, LG's G5 successor, at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, rumors continue to enter the fore. This time, it's by virtue of images depicting the phone out in the wild, with what looks to be a G6 prototype of some sort.
LG G6 Prototype
The set of photos does portray a G6 that awfully looks like an early development version, indeed, given that there's a cumbersome wired setup tethered to the back panel.
The pictures were first published by Droid Life, noting that the phone doesn't look as if it's a finished product. However, the images do reveal a couple of G6 tidbits, which could potentially be included in the final version of the device, if the prototype in the leaks ends up being accurate.
While the material used in the prototype's back isn't indicative of what LG is reportedly going to use — GSMArena notes the phone will have a metal unibody construction — the placement of the phone's dual cameras and the fingerprint looks pretty much on point when placed next to alleged G6 cases that were leaked recently, giving an idea on what the phone will end up looking.
Dual Cameras And Rear-Mounted Fingerprint Scanner Confirmed?
Other details revealed by the photos include a USB Type-C port on the bottom part of the device, a mono speaker beside the speaker grills, and a microphone at the other end. The front of the display looks predominantly occupied by a large screen with minimal bezels, as has been rumored numerous times, although it's impossible to tell if the panel sports rounded corners, as whispered by other rumors.
Of course, users shouldn't count too much on the alleged prototype G6 portrayed on the picture as it could end up being totally fake. Conversely, if it does end up being real, the finished product will most likely differ in terms of material used for the body, alongside other finishing touches LG implemented for the phone that are unbeknownst to the general public.
LG G6 Rumors
As with any other smartphone under wraps, especially one from a major manufacturer, the LG has earned its fair share of rumors. For instance, it's been reported that the phone won't have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip embedded inside, as Samsung has already staked claim on its supply. Other rumors say that the phone will feature water resistance, come with a non-removable battery, and arrive with Google Assistant built in, a feature currently exclusive to Google's Pixel handsets.
It's suggested that the phone will rock a 5.7-inch quad HD screen, which features a nearly bezel-less design, and the leaked images of the prototype seem to support this claim.
LG Might Scrap Modularity
Additionally, LG might bid farewell to the concept of modularity first heralded by its previous flagship, the G5. It's a form of leave-taking is possibly informed by less-than-stellar G5 sales.
LG will unveil the G6 on Feb. 26, at the MWC.
