A new LG G6 report is reiterating the recent rumors that are surrounding the upcoming flagship.
If all the details hold true, then the phone will sport a water-resistant build and a non-removable battery and come with Google Assistant, not Amazon's Alexa.
Source Of The LG G6 Details
The info this time around comes from CNET, and according to the news outlet, it's from a "person familiar with the company's plans."
Now, it didn't exactly reveal anything new, but the main takeaway from the report is how it more or less confirms the talks regarding the LG G6's features so far.
LG G6 Gets Water Resistance But Gives Up Removable Battery
First up, it looks like the LG G6 will be water-resistant, which the public has already heard about when a sneak peek (pictured above) at the phone made rounds online via The Verge.
However, a design like that entails that it won't have a replaceable battery anymore, arguably one of the perks of sorts that appeals to certain users. By extension, that also means the company won't be carrying over the G5's modular offering, so it's safe to expect that the successor won't have the same kind of Friends, at the very least.
LG G6 Chooses Google Assistant Over Amazon's Alexa
The other tidbit worth pointing out in the report is how the LG G6 is going to come with Google Assistant, potentially making it the first non-Pixel phone to house the AI.
Interestingly enough, the source that CNET got in touch with mentions that Alexa was set to be the assistant on the flagship, which stems from a partnership between LG and Amazon, but it didn't pan out because it just wasn't ready. However, they say that there's a chance LG will launch Alexa-powered devices in 2017.
As is the ongoing theme in this article, this also echoes previous rumors, which say that the LG G6 will be packed together with Google Assistant.
No Snapdragon 835 For The LG G6
Recently, news about the LG G6 sporting Snapdragon 821 instead of the newer Snapdragon 835 became widespread, courtesy of Forbes.
Apparently, Samsung is stockpiling the first supplies of the latest Qualcomm processor, leaving LG and other OEMs no other choice but to choose the previous-gen chip — under the assumption that pushing back their devices' launch dates isn't an option, that is.
At any rate, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise since Samsung and Qualcomm worked together to develop Snapdragon 835.
Now, that report is in line with what CNET heard, where LG decided to use Snapdragon 821 to avoid delaying the G6's release date.
If the company did choose to wait for Snapdragon 835 to become available, it'll have to put things on the back burner until after the Galaxy S8 rolls out in April.
Wrapping Up
To recap, the good news is that the LG G6 will likely be water-resistant, and it might have Google Assistant onboard. The bad news is that it probably won't have a Snapdragon 835 under the hood (because Samsung), a removable battery, and Alexa.
The LG G6 is expected to be unveiled on Feb. 26 at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.
