New LG G6 Image Leaks Ahead Of Mobile World Congress Launch

LG is only weeks away from unveiling its 2017 flagship smartphone, the LG G6. An image of the handset has leaked, showing the device from its side with a close-up on its SIM card tray/microSD expansion slot.

Mobile World Congress 2017 is only a few weeks away and one of the next-generation flagship smartphones expected to launch at the event is quickly revealing itself in the form of leaks. It was just reported that the LG G6 will trade in the G5's modular design in order to add a waterproof case as one of its top new features.

LG G6 Image Leaks

Now, a photo of the LG G6 has been published online and it gives the world a sneak peek of the smartphone ahead of LG's MWC 2017 press event. As you can see in the image above, the tipster only wanted to share the alleged smartphone from an upper side view. The handset's SIM tray/microSD expansion slot is located on the upper right side of the device, just below a visible antenna band.

The LG G6 in the leaked photo is the silver color option and its display shows virtually no bezels on the sides of the smartphone. The front-facing camera is visible as are sensors next to the earpiece.

New Display Coming To LG G6

Previous reports have claimed that the LG G6 will ship with a 5.7-inch Quad HD+ display with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,880 with a 9:18 aspect ratio. The new display panel reportedly consumes 30 percent less energy than the LG G5's display. It's expected to be powered by an older Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, supposedly because Samsung reserved all of the new Snapdragon 835 processors for its upcoming Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.

Google Assistant AI

The LG G6 will also be the first smartphone to ship with Google Assistant, which has remained exclusive to Google's Pixel and Pixel XL so far. The handset will retain a standard 3.5mm headphone port and is expected to ship with 64 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot. The G6 will pack in an upgraded dual-rear camera and front-facing shooter that might also double as an iris scanner to allow users to unlock the smartphone with their face.

LG will be holding its press event on Feb. 26 in Barcelona to officially unveil the LG G6. We'll be covering the event and will bring you all of the latest details, carrier availability, and pricing information as it becomes available.
