Naughty Dog recently revealed that it is working on an Uncharted 4: A Thief's End spinoff called The Lost Legacy. During the Sony PlayStation Experience 2016, the game studio briefly demonstrated the new Uncharted title, which showed two female protagonists.
The Lost Legacy has been unceremoniously dropped during the event, catching spectators by surprise. Naughty Dog has been reinforcing the narrative that Uncharted 4 is already finished and that Nathan Drake's story has reached the end of the line, so we won't be seeing him in new DLCs in the future.
The Lost Legacy, therefore, will seem to serve as a way to milk the storyline further as it transpires after Drake's timeline. Perhaps fearful of aggravating fans with drastic changes, Naughty Dog provided several mechanisms to establish the identity of the title as an Uncharted chapter.
For example, it ported Nadine Ross as well as the fan favorite, Chloe Frazer, as one of the characters. Both seem to be headlining the new adventure, and their skills were in full display in the trailer.
The Lost Legacy Backstory
The game developer also provided more insights with respect to how the new game came to be. The official position is that it was originally intended to be a DLC pack to Uncharted 4, but due to the story's expansion, it eventually evolved into one that offers standalone experience.
The story's expansion must have been largely driven by the fact that developers decided that Drake had had enough adventure for a lifetime and should now finally enjoy his retirement.
There was an allusion to some future expedition in Malaysia, but that plan seemed to have been shelved. Drake, of course, could still make a cameo in the game.
New Uncharted Chapter
During the ten-minute game demonstration, it was revealed that the narrative is mainly set in India or some Middle Eastern city. There was only a succession of few scenes, so it was hard to determine what the plot or the goal of the new chapter is. The Lost Legacy, however, is longer than Left Behind, which is the expansion for The Last Of Us.
There is no word yet about the release schedule save for the claim that it will available next year but since it is not a full game, The Lost Legacy should be heading our way soon. Xbox One owners are advised not to hold their breaths because, like the Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, the game will most likely be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
"If you picked up the Uncharted 4 Digital Deluxe Edition or the Explorer's Pack, you'll get Uncharted: The Lost Legacy as a download at launch," Shaun Escayg, creative director of Uncharted 4, said. "Both versions will only be available until December 13, 2016."
