Sony President Shuhei Yoshida says in a blog post that an undisclosed number Uncharted 4: A Thief's End copies got stolen in transit.
Sony is cooperating closely with the police in order to find the culprit, especially since the incident happened ahead of the game's official launch in the UK.
Yoshida mentions that fans should be cautious when searching for Uncharted 4 details online, at least until the game rolls out. Players who got their hands on the game prior to the May 10 release date might create and post murky Web pages defiled by spoilers as we speak.
It does make sense that people who are capable of taking something that does not belong to them would want to ruin the fun for everybody and post spoilers.
"The unfolding story is such an integral part of the experience [so] we wanted you to beware of the spoilers," Yoshida says.
Another reason why the announcement was made public is to discourage people from purchasing stolen goods.
Sony's President underlines that through the efforts of "an extremely talented team," Uncharted 4: A Thief's End came into being.
"We would urge you [to abstain from] purchasing copies of the game ahead of the launch date", Yoshida pleads.
Seeing how the previous versions of the game excelled in storyline, graphics and gameplay, it is easy to side with Sony's leader on this matter. He goes on to add that his company will do everything in its power to keep people from encountering spoilers until the game finally lands on May 10.
There is no official information on how the theft took place, but it seems that Great Britain has a penchant for truck hijacking.
After this latest stunt, fans of the Uncharted series were able to purchase copies of Uncharted 4 on eBay, for about £90 ($131).
According to VideoGamer, it seems that at least one gamer managed to get Uncharted 4 from CEX ahead of time.
Amazon got chastised for promising a number of customers that their game copy will land sooner than expected. The electronic vendor went back on its statement and apologized, confirming that the title will be delivered on the official release date.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be the last chapter in the main character's story, so if you are a fan of Nathan Drake's adventures, this is the last chance for a bullet dance.
