Bungie hasn't been shy about changing Destiny. In just over a month, the game has changed dramatically, and according to Bungie, Destiny will continue to evolve throughout its life. The developers are extremely dedicated to keeping the game both fun for players and fair without breaking the game for any one particular playstyle.
Now that more and more Guardians are completing the 'Vault of Glass' raid, Bungie is beginning to focus more on the upcoming downloadable content packs. 'The Dark Below' DLC is the next big step for both Bungie and Destiny, and it gives the team a chance to include a lot of what was missing in the core game. Bungie is well aware of the opportunity, and instead of just including more content, the team is looking to fan feedback to shape the DLC.
During the Guardian Radio podcast, community manager David "Deej" Dague spoke on how the team was taking fan suggestions and concerns into how the new DLC is created.
"We're very deliberately taking action on how the game can be stronger, or more stable, or more diverse in the way you are all powerful," he said.
Of course, this is Bungie, and the team wasn't specific on what changes would be coming with 'The Dark Below,' but it really could be anything. A lot of the game's criticisms were leveled at its lack of story, so it's entirely possibly that 'The Dark Below' will focus more on its narrative. There could be more variety between the different missions, or there could be a fleet of new vehicles. Going by the above quote, it's easy to think that there could be new sub-classes and powers to try out. There are a million different possibilities, but one thing is for sure: Bungie is listening to the players, just like they always have.
So far, 'The Dark Below' is the first of two scheduled DLC packs, the other being 'House of Wolves.' In terms of a release schedule, 'The Dark Below' is slated for sometime later this year, while the 'House of Wolves' expansion is set for early next year. Despite this, players have already gotten a glimpse at the unreleased DLC by way of a glitch that allows players into unfinished sections of the map.
Despite seemingly endless criticism, Destiny remains one of the most popular games on the market today. Millions of players are still signing in for multi-hour sessions on a daily basis. Even with its critics, Bungie has dedicated itself to changing the game into something that everyone can love, but the team is also looking to get out in front of the issues with 'The Dark Below' DLC. Maybe with the new content, Destiny will evolve into the classic that people thought it would be.
'The Dark Below' expansion is due sometime this December.
