The cast of iconic long running sitcom Will & Grace has reunited in a new video clip in which all four stars of the show recreate their famous characters on the original set in a hilarious political debate about the upcoming choice between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Could a full relaunch of the show take place next on a streamer like Netflix or Hulu?
It's been 10 long years since we've seen the cast of Will & Grace in their beloved roles that captured the hearts and eyeballs of millions during the show's 1998 to 2006 run, in which time the sitcom picked up a whopping 16 Emmy awards.
Now, the entire cast, Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally, along with Shelley Morrison who played Rosario, the housekeeper to Mullally's Karen Walker character, are all back in what is being promoted as a "new scene" from the show, in which the group reunites in Will & Grace's apartment to give their two cents about the biggest debate of our time: Hillary vs. Trump.
The four actors had teased a possible reunion on their social media accounts in the past few days, first all posting a picture of the four together and then a video clip stating, "A band of heroes WILL assemble to protect the world from aliens & destruction. Only an act of GRACE can save them in their battle for what IS right. Only they can bring America BACK from the brink." The words in all caps when strung together spell out "WILL & GRACE IS BACK" and set off a frenzy of speculation as to exactly what that meant.
Now, the entire video clip of the new scene has been released on YouTube, and the cast has gotten back together to support their choice for president and encourage viewers to vote. In the clip, none of the actors misses a beat in resurrecting their former characters, who impressively don't appear to have aged (or matured) a bit in the last 10 years.
Will & Grace, firmly in the Hillary camp, battle one-percenter Karen who backs Trump, in trying to persuade undecided Jack who to choose for president. As expected, Jack's decision turns on the most superficial reasoning, when he discovers that pop star Katy Perry is a Hillary supporter, despite his objection to the fact that the potential first female president wears pants.
At the end, scene-stealing Shelley Morrison has the last word as Rosario, calling out the entire foursome as a "basket of deplorables" in reference to comments Clinton recently made regarding Trump supporters.
While the reunion is clearly politically motivated, the best parts are watching the familiar group's chemistry shine once again as they take on recent pop culture topics that have trended since the show left the air, such as Fifty Shades of Grey, Ryan Lochte and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's recent divorce announcement.
With the recent revivals of former shows such as Gilmore Girls and Full House, a content hungry streamer such as Netflix, Hulu or Amazon could likely express interest in bringing back the show with new episodes.
TV show revivals have a built in fan base, and often motivate subscription purchases and renewals. The cast could certainly be game as evidenced by the reunion, and since none has followed up with another successful vehicle, it is completely plausible that there could be even more new laughs to come from the Will & Grace gang in the future.
