Google is pulling the plug on the Nexus family and is replacing it with a new Pixel line of handsets, according to sources familiar with the matter. Now, new information about the handset comes from Reddit and a clear case.
The company will maintain the pluses of the Nexus family, meaning that smartphones built under the Google brand will carry an almost pure Android on board and will get regulated updates for at least two years.
Taking a leaf out of the 2015's book, which brought the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, Google will release two new handsets in 2016. The upcoming devices will be dubbed the Pixel and Pixel XL, accounting for their respective difference in size. While the Pixel is said to sport standard smartphone dimensions, the XL variant is expected to come in phablet-form.
Some days ago, a memorably low-resolution photo leak revealed how the real-size version of the Pixel XL will look like. Despite being blurry and having cringe-worthy quality, the image offered fans of Google's smartphones a bone to chew, and social media sites were soon boiling with assumptions and debates over the new phablet from the manufacturer. Avid handset connoisseurs began dissecting the image to reveal all the details of the Pixel XL.
One Redditor called "bndki" even used the photo to construct a rendering based on it, showcasing what the smartphone might look like from the front.
We advise taking the visual information with a grain of salt, but if the leaked image was accurate, and if the Redditor approximated the proportions right, we might have a pretty clear image of the upcoming phablet from Google, at least of its front.
If your reaction to the render is "so what?" you are not the only one.
PhoneArena also affirms that there is "nothing exciting to look at when the display is off." However, note that it is a design performance for a smartphone to come with such slim bezels.
Previous leaks of the Google Pixel XL were a bit more telling, though. Here are a few details that were clearly visible in the leak about a clear case that surfaced this week.
The G logo (button) is lacking from the homescreen, but this might be simply indicative of a dated render. The G logo is clearly depicted on the rear side of the handset. Speaking of the back panel, it does feature dual color design and holsters a fingerprint scanner and the 12-megapixel rear snapper.
Recently, other details surfaced and revealed the pricing of the upcoming Google branded handsets.
