Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 Flip Phone Gets Bluetooth Certification, Could Launch Soon

Samsung has been touting for some time that a Galaxy Folder 2 phone is in the works, and the new clamshell handset is almost ready for release.

Only two months ago, evidence about the device came in the form of an import listing of components that will get packed in the device. It was followed by a prototype batch that reached India to be tested and evaluated.

The latest info shows that the smartphone, which has the model number SM-G1600, is nearing official launch, as it recently passed through the Bluetooth certification stage.

Sadly, there are few technical details available at the moment about the Galaxy Folder 2.

An FCC filing shows the rumored phone as carrying a 2,000 mAh battery, but that information is still unconfirmed. Other rumors hint that the clamshell device will feature a 3.8-inch touch screen and will rely on a tandem made of a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm processor and 2 GB of RAM for processing power.

The purported standard storage will be only 8 GB, but thanks to a microSD slot, owners of the device will be able to ramp it up to 200 GB.

Looking at the camera combo, we find an 8-megapixel back-facing sensor and a 5-megapixel selfie-snapper. The front-facing sensor that will take epic selfies of you and your friends reached GFXBench in late June, and we told you about it in our coverage.

On the software side, everyone expects to see the phone carrying Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, with a touch of Samsung's TouchWiz UI.

Speculations are roaming free about the release date and availability of the product. Some claim that the Galaxy Folder 2 will first land in China followed by South Korea, but the OEM did not officially confirm any release date or release plan for Asian markets. However, there is a strong chance for other markets to be added in due time.

As a reminder, Samsung launched the Galaxy Folder in July last year, and the device also rocked a 3.8-inch touch screen display. An interesting detail is that with the 2015 model, Samsung departed from its tradition of having two displays — one on the cover and one on the inside of the phone — and stuck with having only the inner display.

It sported a photo combo made of an 8-megapixel rear sensor and a 2-megapixel selfie snapper, 8 GB of internal storage, memory expansion via microSD and 4G LTE connectivity.

Considering how the family of devices has evolved, does the possibility of a Samsung Folder 2 clamshell smartphone appeal to you? Let us know in the comments section below.
