One of the defining features in the Dragon Ball series has always been the various transformations. A slew of different characters from all across the DB universe are able to transform, gaining new features — or forms — in the process, ranging from getting spiky blonde hair, to becoming a giant ape.
Unfortunately, 2015's Dragon Ball Xenoverse didn't embrace that feature all too well. Yes, there were transformations, but among the five races available for CaCs, only two of them were actually able to do so: Saiyans and Humans — a reality made all the more disappointing considering that all five of these races could transform or power-up in some form in the base material.
Now, with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 on the way, it looks like Bandai Namco has rectified that mistake by making transformations — or at least altered states — accessible to more of the custom characters. And as evidence of this, the company released a trailer showing the transformations in action.
In the trailer, we see three transformations, the first of which is for Saiyans. As mentioned before, Saiyans were already able to transform in the original Xenoverse, so them being able to transform this time around shouldn't be noteworthy. So why did they show up in the trailer you ask? Because the CaC went Super Saiyan 3 — a transformation that wasn't present in the original.
The next transformation belongs to the Frieza race. The CaC's ki aura changes color and his posture changes along with it, becoming quite similar to Frieza's Golden Transformation from Revival of F.
Lastly, there's the transformation belonging to the Majin race. This, just like the Frieza transformation, is new to the Xenoverse series, but we've already seen it before in other Dragon Ball media. Specifically, upon transforming, the CaC becomes shorter and looks pretty much identical in appearance (other than color) to Kid Buu from Dragon Ball Z's Buu Saga.
However, even with all this new information, there is still crucial stuff that the trailer leaves out — namely what the transformations actually do for the character. It stands to reason that the character will get some stat boosts upon transforming, but Bandai Namco has yet to specify what those stat boosts will be, if any. Similarly, the trailer doesn't address if the transformation will affect the character's moveset. Just like with stat boosts, it's possible that transforming will alter the properties of certain moves, or change them outright.
Unfortunately, unless Bandai Namco reveals this information in the upcoming months, fans will have to wait until Oct. 25 (or Oct. 28 if you live in Europe or play on Steam) when Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 arrives on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to find out.
