'Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2' Special Editions Are Awesome, But The Enhanced Trailer And Photos Are The Real Winners

Bandai Namco was at Japan Expo 2016 and made the anticipation for the upcoming Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 that much greater, revealing the game's Special Editions — a Collector's Edition and a Deluxe Edition — as well as several preorder bonuses and an enhanced trailer to go along with it.

It was an awesome info dump all around, and while the Collector's and Deluxe editions are no doubt welcome additions to the game — or any title, for that matter — the real stars of the show were the 1080p images and trailer the company showed.

Of course, it's different strokes for different folks, so maybe those special editions are all you really care about. For those on the fence though, check out everything that Bandai Namco revealed at its panel:

Collector's Edition

– A copy of the game
– Time Patroller's Guide
– Exclusive box design with metal Shenron
– Son Goku Super Master Stars Piece (34 centimeters/13 inches tall)

Deluxe Edition

– A copy of the game
– Early access to playable character Future Trunks
– Season Pass: access to four separate content packs, including stages, playable characters, episodes and quests, Masters and Masters quests and costumes, accessories and skills.

In addition, all preorders of the game (which would most likely be standard with the Collector's Edition and the Deluxe Edition) will come with Goku Black, a new antagonist from Dragon Ball Super, and a new "vehicle" to fly around on in Conton City, the game's main hub.

Interestingly, the Collector's Edition makes no mention of granting buyers early access to Future Trunks or including the Season Pass. Considering that the Collector's Edition is likely to cost more than the Deluxe version, it would stand to reason that all those special bonuses from the Deluxe would be included in the Collector's iteration, and Bandai Namco didn't bother to mention it.

Finally, it should be noted that these bonuses are for the European version of the game. The North American version will get the same Collector's Edition, but it will also come with a steel box and soundtrack CD.

As stated before, the announcement also came with a trailer, which, despite essentially being the same as the one from Anime Expo, honestly stole the show.

From the trailer, we get to see more of the story, which apparently has powered-up versions of old foes from different timelines coming to help foes from the present timeline eliminate the heroes of the original story. In fact, at one point, we see Cooler appearing in the middle of the Goku vs. Frieza fight on Planet Namek, and the latter is genuinely surprised to see him show up.

Furthermore, the trailer has made it abundantly clear that there is more to the DBZ universe than just one section of the world. Players can be seen flying around in Conton City, something that was unneeded in the original game, considering how small that game's hub was, as well as walking around inside buildings and on Planet Namek (which gives credence to the assertion that there will be specific areas only accessible based on a CaC's race).

Lastly, there are the characters that were shown throughout the trailer. Aside from Janemba, who was seen in a previous trailer, once again, we see the return of Zarbon and Dordoria, Frieza's two main henchmen, as well as Lord Slug, the antagonist of Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. All three of these villains have made various appearances in DBZ games in the past, but were notably absent from the first Xenoverse.

There's also the set of images that came along with everything else. All of it was pretty standard, but there was also this little number:

Is that a transformed Majin race CaC? Fans have asked for more transformations beyond the generic Super Saiyan one, and it looks like Dimps and Bandai Namco have granted their request. Hopefully, the two companies go one step further and add transformations for the Frieza and Namekian races as well.

With all of these shown off, there is little doubt that Xenoverse 2 is going to be a step above its predecessor. Now, all that remains is to wait until Oct. 25 — or 28 in Europe — for it to finally arrive.
